Mendoza RM200 Review
We had our first look at the new rifles coming from Mendoza in the RM-200, single shot, break barrel that shoots .22 at 600 fps. First impression is WOW. We’ll share all the particulars as we get to them.
First of all, the rifle came in with a black stock. At first I was not sure if it was composite or not, but I think that it is
painted wood. Either way it is very nice and has a neat textured feel that is easy to grip and use. I thought it must have been composite because the fit was
superb, but it is actually wood. Everything is very tight and finished off very well.
Some of the neat features of this rifle are:
- Small size
- lightweight
- easy cocking effort
- built in scope stop
- rear fiber optic sight
- front fiber optic sight
- ambidextrous safety
- oil port for easy maintenance
- absolutely wonderful trigger system!
The only down side…. The ABSOLUTELY
MISERABLE FIXED SIGHT ADJUSTMENT SYSTEM. I recently got a cheap bb gun from
wal-mart that had the SAME adjustment system. Fortunately I mounted a scope which made the sites unnecessary. To there defense, once I did get the sights set they worked well and I was able to shoot 3/4″ groups at 10 meters.
Once I had the scope mounted and dialed in, I handed the rifle to my
sister-in-law. She is very new to shooting and this is only her second time shooting a springer rifle. From a seated position, shooting from a table (just using her elbow to balance the rifle), she shot a group between 3/8″ and 1/2″ at 10 meters. That is my wedding ring so you can
get an idea of the size of the group. That is a 3/4″ square.
One very interesting point of note is that this rifle was very picky about pellet choice. I tried several, from Crosman Premier, to Gamo Magnums, to JBS Predators, to Benjamin Diablos, to RWS Super-H-Point, to RWS Superdome, to.. well you get the point. I must have tried 8 different pellet types. I finally settled on the LOGUN .22 Penetrator 16.0 g. It was by far the best performer. There were some others that were close like the Beaman Kodiak and JBS Predators, but none matched the LOGUNs.
Shooting this rifle was a dream. Very easy cocking effort, as mentioned above, wonderful trigger, and relatively light weight. The size would make it a very fun gun to carry through the woods to take small game at close range. I would not push it out beyond 25 yards.
Tomorrow we back up the bench and try shooing at some distances. We will post our findings here!

Just wanted to say thanks. I have been thinking about getting this Air Rifle. I couldn’t decide though if I wanted this or the RM2000 being that it is a little more powerful and is multi-shot
pbelkin780,
Thanks for posting your comment. Make sure that you read the fine print on the “multi-shot” aspect of the rifle. I believe that you have to use Mendoza’s solid base pellets for that feature to work.
(Pulled from pyramidair.com’s description)
“Pre-load the onboard magazine with seven, Mendoza solid base pellets, cock the barrel and you’ll get another shot without having to individually load each pellet. Or, single-load the breech with your favorite .22 caliber pellet for field hunting or casual plinking fun”
I was looking at the same rifle for the same reason, but could not find the pelets anywhere. Please let us know if you get one and what you think of it!
AirHead.
Hows the bench testing going? And did you find a better pellet than the loguns. I’m shooting the 2003 and am looking to close the groups down from my JBS Predators. Although they have been doing just fine on the bird and squirrel population in the back yard.
Kenny,
The bench testing is going well. I’ve got some more tests to do before I confirm how this other pellet is doing. I’ll let everyone know just as soon as I’ve completed everything. I also just got my Chronograph in so I’ll have hard numbers for that as well.
Stay Tuned!

Airhead:
Looks like BBs testing this one at the same time. Its going to be good to have two good tests to look at. There has yet to be a good test on the web to compair the different Mendoza rifels. I will stay tuned in for the info.
Kenny, (and others)
I’m going to be posting a full review on the matter, but to just give you a taste here is some info:
I updated my Mendoza RM200 with a 3x9x40 AO scope, and added the Dragon Claw Bi-Pod from Pyramid Air. I’m now shooting consistent 1/2 groups at 20 yards. I’ve switched to the RWS Superdome pellet for one reason… Availability. I went back to Pyramid to get more Logun pellets and they were out. When I first tried the Superdome I was not impressed, I guess that I need to just shoot more than one or two because I’m VERY happy with them now. I’ve got a few more pellets to try before I finish my report.
RWS Superdome velocity was as follows:
(At the muzzle)
High: 561
Low: 529
Average: 540
Difference: 32
With a rifle rated for 600 FPS, to get a 540 average is pretty good in my book, cause these are not light pellets.
More to come… (with photos!!!)
